Soil Improvement
There are opportunities during a rotation to grow green manure crops with specific characteristics. Carefully managed green manures can actively boost/maintain soil nutrients, suppress weeds, control pests, help water movement or improve soil structure, reducing the use of farm inputs.
Whilst no single green manure is a ‘fix-all’ any fresh plant matter incorporated into the topsoil to increase levels of soil organic matter benefits cropped land.
