This seed mixture has been carefully designed to provide important pollen and nectar resources for bees, butterflies and beneficial insects. It will start to flower about 10 weeks from sowing and provide a long window of blooming flowers all the way in to autumn.
This mixture is based on annual species, they will establish quickly, flower and then fade away as we approach winter. For best results, resow the following spring, after the last frost in the spring, when the weather is warm to encourage a fast germination and by the middle of August if sowing in the summer.

Buckwheat
This is a short term, aggressive weed suppressor. It is good at scavenging for phosphate in the soil, breaking it down and then making it available to subsequent crops after incorporation. It's especially useful in soils that suffer from phosphate lockup. With its quick growth, the plant can establish from seed in 8 - 10 weeks.
Fenugreek
Traditionally the fenugreek plant has been used over the centuries as a herb and a spice in cooking and for medicinal purposes. In the UK there has been some trials carried out using the plant as a soil improving green manure. Due to its rapid growth it has been trialled in poly tunnels where productivity is high and gaps in the rotation for fertility building are short.
Crimson Clover
An annual legume and true clover, traditionally sown in the south east of England for over-winter sheep keep.
Berseem Clover
This is a short term legume also known as Egyptian clover. It provides fast growing biomass and nitrogen fixation when sown in warm soils.
Persian Clover
A legume species which is widely used across Europe. It is less common in the UK but can be a useful forage plant. This short term annual fixes nitrogen and is capable of rapid growth making it ideal for providing a quick boost to soil fertility where there is a window of 5-9 months. When in flower Persian clover has a particularly pleasing smell.
Balansa Clover
This legume is a recent addition to the UK, It is a high biomass plant, with a better cold tolerance than other annual clovers, which means it can be used as an over winter forage or green cover.
Phacelia
Phacelia is a rapidly growing, high biomass plant. It is a nitrogen holder and weed suppressor. Its eye catching purple flowers are particularly good at attracting bees and other beneficial insects.
Cornflower
Cornflowers are a tall annual with a distinctive vibrant blue flower head. The flower supplies pollen and nectar for bees and lots of other beneficial insects and the seeds also provide food for small mammals and birds such as Goldfinches.
Corn Marigold
Easily recognised flower-heads, carried on long stalks. The lower leaves are stalked and have toothed edges or are cut into leaflets. The upper ones clasp the stem and are sometimes little toothed. The plant which grows 6 to 8 inches tall is an annual.
Corn Cockle
Corn Cockle is a tall annual with singular pink/purple flowers, dating back as far as the Iron Age in Britain; however it is now virtually extinct in the wild.
