Caraway

A biennial herb growing between 30-60cm in height. It is a member of the Apiaceae family so is related to fennel and carrot. Caraway is a very useful herb for encouraging pollinators and beneficial insects, it has strong taproots so can help to break soil compaction. Historically used to treat digestive troubles explains Newman Turner. It wants to be sown into a warm seedbed, for spring it can be sown from April onwards and Autumn between July and August, later sowings should be avoided. As it is a biennial it will not flower in its first season from a spring sowing.
