Wild flowers: vivid annuals and glorious perennials.

The decline of wild flower meadows across the UK is well documented. Yet, during the last decade, we have seen an increasing demand for wild flower seeds which are being sown to recreate meadows.

Cotswold Wild Flora

Ref: MIXFLO
Sowing rate: 10 kg per acre (25 kg/ha, 2.5 g/m²)

A very colourful mixture of native perennial and annual wild flowers and grasses. This is our most popular wild flower mixture. We include annual species in the mixture to give an exceptional show of vivid colour during the first year. From the second year the perennial flower species begin to increase and just get better year by year. Sow between March and early May, or August and early October at 10 kg per acre or 25 kg per hectare. Species included vary occasionally. Pictured here, Gordon Crouch s farm in Devon showing the benefit of the first year annuals.

Nectar Meadow

Ref: MIXNEC
Sowing rate: 10 kg per acre (25 kg/ha, 2.5 g/m²)

This mixture is a positive step towards recreating a traditional meadow with wild flowers, whilst providing for light grazing and the occasional cut of hay. Using non aggressive grasses, this mixture contains five native wild flowers species which are commonly found on most soils. The colourful flowers are included as a nectar source and are particularly attractive to bees and butterflies. Sow between March and early May, or August and early October at 10 kg per acre or 25 kg per hectare.

Cornfield Annuals Mixture

Ref: MIXANN
Sowing rate: 2 kg per acre (5 kg/ha, 0.5 g/m²)

This spring sown mixture is a fast growing, wildflower blend that shows results in the summer months of the same year. The wildflowers in this mix, if managed correctly can shed their seed to produce wildflowers again the following year. But to show the best result, reseeding the area annually is recommended.  Please note that this mixture attracts VAT which is included in the displayed price.

The sowing rate for this mixture is variable depending on the size of the area to cover, a full rate of 10 kgs per acre will give a vivid and bright, eye catching display of colour, however more economical rates can be sown at several kilos per acre to give an attractive splash of colour.

Please note: this mixture is not available organcially

Damp Meadow

Ref: MIXDAM
Sowing rate: 10 kg per acre (25 kg/ha, 2.5 g/m²)

Wetter soils require a slightly different seed mixture. This one should give reliable results on most wetter soils. It may also be used around water courses or ponds. The colourful display of native flowers will provide a useful nectar source for invertebrates. Sow between March and early May, or August and early October at 10 kg per acre or 25 kg per hectare.

Chalk & Limestone Soil Mixture

Ref: MIXCHA
Sowing rate: 10 kg per acre (25 kg/ha, 2.5 g/m²)

This mixture is designed for chalk and limestone soil types.  Chalk and Limestone soils are known for their ability to support a large selection of wild flower species which is why we have been able to create such a diverse mixture.  A well prepared, well worked seedbed is essential, free of aggressive weeds and grasses which commonly out-compete the wildflowers.  Seeds should be surface sown evenly, no more than 10mm deep.

Sow between March and May, or August and early October.  Sow at 10kg/acre or 25kg/ha.
